KURO Coffee Table - Custom-Made Shou Sugi Ban Burnt Wood Coffee Table

Kuro is an Asian-inspired coffee table made of burnt oak with an organic shape.

Made by hand in our workshop, it showcases the wood burning technique called Shou Sugi Ban or Yakisugi.

This traditional Japanese method, used for several centuries mainly on cedar wood, consists of burning the surface of the wood, making it more resistant to weathering, fires and insects.

Today it is used more and more often on interior furniture, giving a dark finish that is very popular in modern minimalist interiors.

For this project, we selected an oak tabletop and decided to leave the board's imperfections untouched, allowing the natural cracks in the wood and its textured surface to show through. These irregularities or imperfections should not be considered a flaw but rather part of the piece's unique character.
