KURO - Custom-Made Shou Sugi Ban Burnt Wood Dining Table

Kuro is an Asian-inspired table made of solid charred oak with an organic shape.

Made by hand in our workshop, it showcases the wood burning technique called Shou Sugi Ban or Yakisugi.

This traditional Japanese method, used for several centuries mainly on cedar wood, consists of burning the surface of the wood, making it more resistant to weathering, fires and insects.

Today it is used more and more often on interior furniture, giving a dark finish that is very popular in modern minimalist interiors.

For this project, we selected an oak tabletop and decided not to touch any of the board's imperfections, preserving the natural cracks in the wood and its textured surface.
These irregularities or imperfections should not be considered a defect but rather part of the unique essence of the piece.
